Create links to Paperpile
You can copy a link to a reference to create quick links for your personal use, or to easily share it with other Paperpile users who have access to the same shared library.
Share references via link
The most flexible way to share references with others is the Share via link feature. Shared Paperpile links allow anyone, with or without a Paperpile account, to view reference metadata and/or download PDFs from articles in your library.
See Share references with a private link or email for more detail.
Copy a personal link to a reference
Sometimes it’s convenient to copy the URL for a specific reference in your library without creating a fully-shared link:
- Select a reference from the list. Click anywhere on a reference to select it.
- Click the three-dot button and select Copy link from the menu.
The link is copied to the clipboard and you can paste it anywhere.
You can also press Cmd+Option+L (macOS) or Ctrl+Alt+L (Windows and Linux) to copy a link.
When to use Copy link
Create personal links: Add links in your note-taking app or documents to quickly jump to specific references in your personal library. This is useful for organizing research or creating quick shortcuts.
Share with collaborators in a shared library: Copy the reference link and send it via Slack, email, or any messenger. Colleagues who have access to the same shared library can click it to open the reference in their Paperpile web app.
Copy link vs Share via link
Copy link creates a direct link that works only for users who already have access to references through a shared library. It's different from Share via link, which creates access to a reference list on the web for anyone with the link.
- Copy link: Quick links to unique references for existing Paperpile users who already have access through their personal library or a shared library.
- Share via link: Web links for sharing reference lists with anyone.
If you want to share a reference with a non-Paperpile user, use a share link instead. See Share references with a private link or email.
