What is EZproxy?
EZproxy, a web proxy server, grants authorized users such as students, faculty, and staff the ability to remotely access the university's electronic resources from any point around the world. With EZproxy, these resources are accessible just as they would be on-campus, ensuring that essential information is constantly at your fingertips, regardless of whether you are studying within your home, performing research in a café, or traveling in other countries.
Why use EZproxy?
Numerous electronic resources offered by the university are limited to on-campus usage due to contractual agreements with publishers and content suppliers. EZproxy enables you to connect to these resources from off-campus sites by authenticating your university login and simulating your request as originating from an on-campus IP address.
What’s the difference between EZproxy, OpenAthens, and VPN?
While all three systems—EZproxy, OpenAthens, and VPN—help extend access to university resources beyond the campus, they differ in how they authenticate users. EZproxy relies on IP masking to make remote users appear to be on campus. OpenAthens uses a modern, federated identity system to verify individual users through single sign-on. VPNs route your entire internet connection through the university's network, which can offer broader access but may also slow down your connection or raise security concerns for non-academic browsing.
