What is EZproxy?

The web proxy server known as EZproxy allows eligible users—students, faculty, and staff—to gain remote access to the university's online resources from anywhere on the planet. Utilizing EZproxy ensures that you can reach these resources just as easily as if you were on campus, providing you with the information you require at all times, be it while studying at your residence, doing research in a cozy café, or venturing to foreign countries.

Why use EZproxy?

Many electronic resources from the university are available exclusively for on-campus access due to contractual obligations with publishers and content providers. EZproxy makes it possible for you to access these resources off-campus by confirming your university identification and presenting your request as though it were coming from an on-campus IP address.

What’s the difference between EZproxy, OpenAthens, and VPN?

While all three systems—EZproxy, OpenAthens, and VPN—help extend access to university resources beyond the campus, they differ in how they authenticate users. EZproxy relies on IP masking to make remote users appear to be on campus. OpenAthens uses a modern, federated identity system to verify individual users through single sign-on. VPNs route your entire internet connection through the university's network, which can offer broader access but may also slow down your connection or raise security concerns for non-academic browsing.
