What is EZproxy?

EZproxy functions as a web proxy server that permits authorized individuals, such as students, faculty, and staff, to access the university's electronic resources remotely from any place in the world. By using EZproxy, you can retrieve these resources in a manner identical to on-campus access, guaranteeing that vital information is always within reach, whether you are learning at home, conducting research in a coffee house, or voyaging internationally.

Why use EZproxy?

The university's electronic resources are often restricted to on-campus access as a result of licensing agreements with publishers and content providers. EZproxy helps you access these resources from remote locations by verifying your university credentials and making your request appear to come from an on-campus IP address.

What’s the difference between EZproxy, OpenAthens, and VPN?

EZproxy, OpenAthens, and VPNs all offer ways to access restricted academic resources off-campus, but they work in very different ways. EZproxy uses IP-based authentication, rerouting your connection so it appears as though you're on the university network. OpenAthens, on the other hand, uses identity-based authentication—meaning you log in once with your institutional credentials, and it grants access based on who you are, not where you're connecting from. VPNs simulate a campus environment by creating a secure tunnel to the university’s internal network, which can be more resource-intensive and less user-friendly.
