What is EZproxy?
Operating as a web proxy server, EZproxy provides authorized users—students, faculty, and staff—with the ability to remotely connect to the university's digital resources from any global location. When using EZproxy, you can access these resources in the same way as on-campus access, ensuring that important information is readily available, whether you're studying in your home, carrying out research in a coffee shop, or journeying to foreign destinations.
Why use EZproxy?
Numerous electronic resources offered by the university are limited to on-campus usage due to contractual agreements with publishers and content suppliers. EZproxy enables you to connect to these resources from off-campus sites by authenticating your university login and simulating your request as originating from an on-campus IP address.
What’s the difference between EZproxy, OpenAthens, and VPN?
The key difference between EZproxy, OpenAthens, and a VPN lies in how they handle authentication and user access. EZproxy works by rewriting links and proxying your session through a campus IP address. OpenAthens uses federated identity management to authenticate users based on their university credentials, offering a more scalable and secure solution. A VPN creates a private connection to the university’s network, which is useful for accessing internal systems, but overkill for simply reading journals or using library databases.
