What is OpenAthens?
Whether you're studying from home or working abroad, OpenAthens ensures that you can still reach The University of Olivet’s full range of electronic resources. By signing in with your Olivet account, you get the same access as you would on campus—fast, secure, and hassle-free.
Why use OpenAthens?
Licensing deals with content providers typically limit access to users physically on campus. OpenAthens ensures that students, faculty, and staff at The University of Olivet can access those same resources from anywhere, simply by logging in with their Olivet username and password.
What’s the difference between EZproxy, OpenAthens, and VPN?
When comparing EZproxy, OpenAthens, and VPN, it’s helpful to think about what each tool is designed to do. VPNs are great for full network access, allowing staff and faculty to use internal tools as if they were on campus. EZproxy and OpenAthens, however, are designed specifically for accessing library and academic resources. OpenAthens improves on EZproxy by using modern identity-based access instead of relying on IP ranges, making it easier to manage access permissions across different publishers and platforms.
