What is OpenAthens?
Whether you're studying from home or working abroad, OpenAthens ensures that you can still reach Larkin University’s full range of electronic resources. By signing in with your Larkin account, you get the same access as you would on campus—fast, secure, and hassle-free.
Why use OpenAthens?
Some of Larkin University’s most valuable digital resources are only available to users on the campus network. OpenAthens makes those resources available off-campus too—just sign in with your Larkin credentials, and you’ll be recognized as an authorized user no matter where you are.
What’s the difference between EZproxy, OpenAthens, and VPN?
When comparing EZproxy, OpenAthens, and VPN, it’s helpful to think about what each tool is designed to do. VPNs are great for full network access, allowing staff and faculty to use internal tools as if they were on campus. EZproxy and OpenAthens, however, are designed specifically for accessing library and academic resources. OpenAthens improves on EZproxy by using modern identity-based access instead of relying on IP ranges, making it easier to manage access permissions across different publishers and platforms.
