What is EZproxy?
EZproxy serves as a web proxy server that allows authorized individuals (students, faculty, and staff members) to connect to the university's digital resources from any location across the globe. With the help of EZproxy, users can access these materials in the same way they would on campus, guaranteeing the availability of crucial information whenever needed, be it studying at home, researching at a café, or journeying overseas.
Why use EZproxy?
Many electronic resources from the university are available exclusively for on-campus access due to contractual obligations with publishers and content providers. EZproxy makes it possible for you to access these resources off-campus by confirming your university identification and presenting your request as though it were coming from an on-campus IP address.
What’s the difference between EZproxy, OpenAthens, and VPN?
When comparing EZproxy, OpenAthens, and VPN, it’s helpful to think about what each tool is designed to do. VPNs are great for full network access, allowing staff and faculty to use internal tools as if they were on campus. EZproxy and OpenAthens, however, are designed specifically for accessing library and academic resources. OpenAthens improves on EZproxy by using modern identity-based access instead of relying on IP ranges, making it easier to manage access permissions across different publishers and platforms.
