What is EZproxy?

EZproxy is an effective web proxy server that empowers authorized users, including students, faculty, and staff, to connect remotely to the university's digital resources from any corner of the world. With EZproxy, accessing these resources is as seamless as if you were on campus, ensuring you always have the necessary information at hand, whether you're studying in the comfort of your home, delving into research at a coffee shop, or traversing international borders.

Why use EZproxy?

Many electronic resources from the university are available exclusively for on-campus access due to contractual obligations with publishers and content providers. EZproxy makes it possible for you to access these resources off-campus by confirming your university identification and presenting your request as though it were coming from an on-campus IP address.

What’s the difference between EZproxy, OpenAthens, and VPN?

EZproxy, OpenAthens, and VPNs all offer ways to access restricted academic resources off-campus, but they work in very different ways. EZproxy uses IP-based authentication, rerouting your connection so it appears as though you're on the university network. OpenAthens, on the other hand, uses identity-based authentication—meaning you log in once with your institutional credentials, and it grants access based on who you are, not where you're connecting from. VPNs simulate a campus environment by creating a secure tunnel to the university’s internal network, which can be more resource-intensive and less user-friendly.
